The Gared Premium Collegiate Basketball Rim is one of the most popular breakaway rims in history. We recommend this basketball rim for high-level competition because it meets NCAA rim elasticity standards. In addition, it delivers reliable performance dunk after dunk. As a result, it protects both players and backboards from damage.
Breakaway vs. Flex Design
This basketball goal uses a breakaway system. It pivots when roughly 140 pounds of dynamic energy load is applied, such as during a forceful dunk. Breakaway rims reduce repair costs and prevent glass backboards from shattering. They use springs under compressive load to keep the rim horizontal until the force is applied.
In contrast, flex rims pivot under very light pressure. Therefore, breakaway rims respond to dynamic energy, while flex rims react to static energy. We set the springs in the Premium Collegiate Basketball Rim to break at approximately 140 pounds. Furthermore, installers can adjust the pressure higher or lower to meet specific needs.

Installation
Installing this basketball hoop takes 10–20 minutes depending on experience. On most backboards, two carriage bolts hold the top of the rim, and two bolts secure the bottom. On some backboards, the lower bolts are welded to the frame. In addition, installers should follow instructions carefully to avoid damage or injury. For example, using untrained or inexperienced personnel may result in property damage or injury.
